About Two Hands Birth Services & Jessica Ruscetta
Pregnancy and childbirth are so tremendously life changing. Empowering experiences can uplift us and give us confidence as a mother, as a woman, as a human. After having two very different experiences in my own life with pregnancy and childbirth I felt it was my calling to help empower women and their partners to begin their journey with confidence. Two Hands Birth Services was born!
With very supportive family and friends behind me I began my training in January of 2013 to become a birth doula, attending DONA Birth Doula workshops in the fall of 2013 and becoming certified in July of 2015. In October 2015 I became a postpartum doula certified through the Madriella program. I feel that offering support during the postpartum period as well as birth completes the circle of helping parents to be confident, prepared and educated. I hosted and attended the Birth Works Childbirth Educator training in November 2014. I also am a member of PALS (Philadelphia Alliance for Labor Support) which provides trained labor and birth support (doulas), to people who would otherwise be unable to access doula care. In August 2014 I took the certification exam and am now a Certified Lactation Counselor(CLC) through Healthy Children's Center for Breastfeeding and The Academy of Lactation Policy and Practice (TALPP). Being able to offer that service to the mothers I serve is very exciting. Starting in January 2017 I will continue to further my education in lactation as I begin my pathway to become an IBCLC. I strive to continue educating myself regularly attending lectures, seminars and networking events on a variety of topics with many different birth professionals in the tri-state area. I was excited to be on the 2016 Birth Works Conference committee and am excited to share all that wonderful information from the conference with my friends, colleagues and clients. In March 2016 I welcomed my third child into the world. All of my training and experiences helped empower me to have my most different birth experience yet. We had our beautiful baby girl in our home thanks to our wonderful caring midwives. This experience helped and challenged me as a woman, doula and mother. I know it has made me stronger and a better birthworker. Two Hands Birth Services evolved into a doula co-op in the summer of 2017 and we are now 7 doulas strong to extend our reach. It is also tremendous to have the support of these women as a birth working network. As my love of birth work and helping empower people to become confident parents continues so does my thirst for knowledge and experiences to make myself a better and more rounded person. In the summer of 2019 I set off on a cross-country adventure with my familiy in our converted school bus to learn and grow and become a better parent, woman, and birth worker.
